Lock 7 Fishing report 3-15-2011

Well I fished Lock 7 today with my friend Charles. I launched my Jon Boat at 7:30 am with a slightly clear sky and very soft breeze. I headed down government cut to get to our fishing pier. I started fishing across from the pier in some shallow water cuts with pencil grass, bull rush, eel grass and kissimmee grass along with dead tree bushs. This was the perfect spot to fish. It had every kind of cover you could think of. It was anywhere from 6" to 2' foot of water in that area. I spotted about 15 different beds in the area. Some of which were tilapia beds mixed with bass beds. I started throwing a spinnerbait with no luck so i began throwing my swimbait. I was using bitter's baits Naked Swimmer 4.5" swimbaits. I was using 4 different colors patterns ( Native Shiner, Mardi Gras, Bluegill Shad and Junebug ). I caught 7 bass in that area ranging from 10" to 16" . I was hooked up on 6 that got off before getting them into the boat.

After a few hours I moved to an open water area with a large eel grass flat mixed with Hydrilla and bullrush. This is a well known bass bedding area. About 2 weeks back my wife caught some nice bass in this area which included a 6lbr and two 5lbrs. I switched over to a Junebug color Zoom Horny Toad. I was able to pull out a nice 3lbr about 5 feet from the boat. After a few there was a breeze starting to roll in from the SW. I switched over to my spinnerbait agian. I hooked into some nice ones but was unable to bring them in. It was not a bad day of fishing for my 4 hour trip. I am working on my video for youtube that shows todays fishing trip.
