Low Water Levels on Lake Okeechobee 5-26-2011

Well The lake has hit a new low water level since the drought of 2007. Rainy season is upon us, but is having a hard time dropping some rain on Lake Okeechobee. Most of My shallow water bass holes are dried up mud now. The bass are now moving to deeper points on the lake. The outside edge of the Cattail and Bulrush are holding some good size bass. If you can find areas of submerged vegetation then you can count on catching many bass. Bass should be starting to school. They will be chasing minnows and small shad. Always remember when you are dealing with schooling bass to throw multiple casts to the area where you caught your bass, chances are you will catch another one or two. Throwing lipless crankbaits is working very well around the lake and rim canal. My good friend Grant has been slaying some big bass using Rat-L-traps and wacky worms. Just remember to imitate the food they're eating, and they will bite.
